What Paperwork Do I Need To Donate My Vehicle?
Each situation varies, so don’t hesitate to call us! In most cases, we will need the title to the vehicle. However, give us a call even if you do not have the title papers. We do our best to accommodate you and other arrangements can be worked out.
Can My Car Be Donated Even If It Does Not Run?

Is My Car Donation Tax Deductible?
Yes. Any vehicle donations we receive are 100% tax deductible. Please visit our tax answers page for more information.
How Is The Value Of My Donated Vehicle Determined?
Because of the IRS Car Donation Tax Laws, you no longer have to estimate. Your car donation to an IRS approved 501(c)(3) charity is still tax deductible and will fall into one of these categories:
1. For vehicles sold for under $500, you can claim the fair market value, up to $500.00 without any additional paperwork besides the receipt we will provide at the time of the pick-up.
2. If the gross proceeds for the sale of your donated vehicle exceeds $500.00, your deduction will be limited to the actual sale price. Reentry Wheels will also ask you to provide your Social Security number for the purposes of completing its IRS Form 1098-C. If your vehicle is sold, all net proceeds will benefit Restorative Partners Reentry Wheels.
Within 30 days that the vehicle is sold, we will provide you with a receipt stating the final sales price of your vehicle.

Reentry Wheels will work with you to schedule a time for your vehicle to be picked up, at absolutely no charge to you.

When Does My Liability For The Vehicle End And Who Transfers The Title?
On the day we receive your vehicle, our insurance provides coverage. You won’t have to worry about a thing. We will handle all transfer documents according to your local state Department of Vehicle Services guidelines, and provide you with receipts and information for your tax deduction.

How much of the selling price of my donated vehicle goes to Reentry Wheels?
You receive a tax deduction for the total amount that your car sells for. (See tax information above).
The amount that your vehicle ultimately sells for is based upon its make, year, mileage and condition. These are sales proceeds from your vehicle. Reentry Wheels also has normal expenses involved in directly promoting the car donation program (advertising) and costs involved in turning your donated vehicle into cash (towing fees, auction fees, administrative costs). Cash donations to RP Reentry Wheels are based upon the sale proceeds of all donated vehicles during a given month, less deductions for normal monthly costs such as towing, advertising, auction fees and administrative fees. Because of the difference in sales proceeds from one vehicle to the next and because of the costs involved in turning your donated vehicle into cash, the donation that RP Reentry Wheels makes from the sale of your individual vehicle can be close to 50%, for a higher value vehicle, or as low as 5% for a very low valued non-running scrap vehicle. The lower percentage is a result of there being minimum fixed costs incurred to obtain, tow and sell each car. These fixed costs can sometimes be a high percentage of the selling price of a low valued scrap vehicle.

How To Get A Tax Deduction For Your Charitable Car Donation
Prior to January 2005, the IRS allowed people who donated to a qualified car donation program to take a tax deduction based on their vehicle's market value no matter how much or how little the vehicle sold for. Determining the market value of a donated vehicle is often quite difficult and time-consuming, which made determination of the amount of the tax deduction confusing. Fortunately, when the new tax law that went into effect in January 2005, the IRS has taken the guesswork out of determining the value of your donated car, truck, RV, boat or other vehicle.
The IRS Allows The Taxpayer To Claim A Charitable Tax Deduction As Follows:

At no charge, your vehicle will be picked up or towed away, sold, and proceeds from the sale of the vehicle will help fund programs in the County Juvenile Hall, Jail, and community. You will also receive a 100% tax deductible receipt.
If the donated vehicle is sold for less than $500, you can claim the fair market value of your vehicle, up to $500 or the amount it is sold for if less than fair market value. If the donated vehicle sells for more than $500, you can claim the exact amount for which the vehicle is sold. For any vehicle sold for more than $500, the exact amount it is sold for will be stated on your notification mailed to you, which in turn will be your charitable tax deduction. Frequently Asked Car Donation Tax Questions
Q: Will my vehicle donation be good for the year that I sent in the donation form, even if I don't receive the receipt until the beginning of the New Year?
A: YES! IRS Publication 4303, "A Donor's Guide To Vehicle Donations" states: "... the written acknowledgment must contain the date of the contribution..." The date of contribution is the date that we received the donation form. So it can even be on the 31st of December and will still allow a charitable vehicle deduction for that tax year.
Q: Does the donation count toward the year I submitted the online form even if the vehicle isn't picked up until the new year?
A: YES! As stated above.
Q: Some charities offer vacation packages as incentives to donate. Does that affect my tax deduction?
A: YES! If a charity provides a commodity, like a vacation package, for example, in exchange for a car or vehicle donation, then the tax receipt from that charity must state the fair market value of that commodity and the fair market value of that commodity must be subtracted from the value of the car donation.
For example: If your vehicle sells for $1,000.00 at auction and your vacation package that you receive has a fair market value of $300.00, you can only deduct $700.00. That's $1,000.00 for the donated car less $300.00 for the vacation package resulting in a maximum deduction of $700.00 ($1000.00 - $300.00 = $700.00)
Reentry Wheels does not provide incentives such as vacation packages for donating a vehicle. However, you do receive a great tax deduction, an easy way to donate a car, and the knowledge that you are helping fund programs in the County Juvenile Hall, Jail, and community.
